W2K doc changes itself

I have a template that is cool by itself. when I paste material into it from
another source - as unformatted text - the doc then applies changes to one
section to the whole doc. it seems to get worse with each section break
that I put in.

I have used word since 1.1 on the Mac, so I am very well versed and adept at
it, this is making me NUTS and I am ripping my hair out. HELP ;-))

and replace with period

fixed it on the template itself - it did say to automatically update - DUH!

now the document refuses to open, so I am unable to access the style
settings. won't open as copy or read only. it is a newsletter that is all
done but the mail merge. can anyone help or do I have to start all over
again????
