W3C Validation

I would like to apply "doctype" to a series of websites and everytime I use
one of the standard W3C recommendations, it seems to be the incorrect one
with FP2002-SP3
I am currently running all pages at html and the pages do have css as well
as server side includes.
I suppose the main problem I have is that I have no idea whether this is
html 2.0, 3.2 or 4.0 or do I simply insert <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "quoted
string"> above the <html>

Hi Denis:
Here's a DOCTYPE statement that you can copy and paste into your page, it
goes before the <html> tag (in HTML/Design View). The DOCTYPE statement must
be at the very beginning of your page.
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

You can do a View | Source on the page in IE to see exactly where the
DOCTYPE should go.
