Wanted: new email address within Entourage

L

Linda Fine

I have version 11.3.6. This software is linked to ameritech.net for
my email accounts. I wish to change my email addresses to avoid the
hundreds of spam received daily. (yes, I've already heightened spam
alert preferences within Entourage). How would I do this on
Entourage? Or do I have to go thru ameritech.net to do this? If so,
will the new info still be linked to Entourage? Thank you.

Hi Linda,

if you want to create a new mail account (which is basically what you do if
you want to change your e-mail address), you need to contact your ISP, in
this case ameritech.net. Once you've got a new e-mail address, you will need
to change your settings in Entourage to enable it to access the account. You
can do this by clicking on Tools>Accounts, then double-clicking your current
account and replacing the old e-mail address with the new one.

Hi!
How would I do this on Entourage?
Or do I have to go thru ameritech.net to do this?

You will have to do some work with both of these. You should be able to call
Ameritech customer service or maybe even visit a web site to add or remove
an e-mail address.

Once you've got that done, ask for the settings needed to access your e-mail
account. Record these on a piece of paper--you'll need to know incoming and
outgoing mail servers, whether you have a POP or IMAP account (POP is the
most common), and what your user name and password are.

When you have all that recorded, go into the Tools menu from within
Entourage and choose the "Accounts" option. From there you will see all your
mail accounts. You can add a new one from here and delete the old one if you
no longer wish to use it or had it removed from Ameritech's system. Just
click the appropriate button and follow the step by step directions.
If so, will the new info still be linked to Entourage? Thank you.

You'll have to reconfigure Entourage a little bit, but it isn't hard. If you
aren't comfortable doing it, customer service might be able to help you. See
above for a general procedure.

Before you use that new address on a newsgroup, learn how to set up a nospam
address to use.

For directions on creating your own fake 'nospam' account see:

Also, see what other options you have for managing the spam. Maybe
Ameritech has some server-side spam filters that you need to enable
yourself. I see they have a SpamShield link on their home page.

If they don't have better filtering then you can try something like
SpamSieve <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/rules/junk/spamsieve.html>.

Managing your spam may be preferable to changing your address and
notifying your contacts.

Hope this helps!
