Warning when trying to open attachments

I get a warning when trying to open an attachment.
It is as follows:
"Warning! This file may contain a virus that may be
harmful to your computer. You must save this file to disk
before it can be opened. It is VERY important to make
sure that this file is safe before opening it.
Then I have two options, cancel and save.
This happens even if I send an attached picture from my
computer to myself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
