I posted in an earlier thread about a "too good to be true" offer I found for
Microsoft Office 2007 Professional here;
http://www.softwaredealsdirect.com/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=2
Because I'm curious and I can afford the £50 if it all goes wrong, I thought
I'd give them a go - I'd asked questions about the product and they had
responded, so thought it was worth a risk.
I entered my details and went throught to the "place order" page, and then
"payment"...but all I got was a message saying "Sorry, no payment methods
have been configured". I've emailed them about this but they have not
responded.
So - the good news is, it hasn't cost me any money, but then I got to
thinking. They ask you to register with an email address...and then they ask
you for a password. It is obviously tempting to enter the same password as
you would normally associate with your email address...
So...my suspicious mind is now thinking...either this is just a scam to get
your email address for spamming purposes...or, more worryingly, to get your
email address and the password that you use to access it.
I never thought about this before...fortunately my email access password IS
different to the one that I entered on the site, but I wondered if this is
how the scammers get hold of people's details?
Of course I have no proof of this as yet...but SoftwareDealsDirect.com's
continued silence sure gives me more cause for suspicion...after all, I'm
trying to give them money, and they are not responding.
