After a reboot, searches no longer work in ON 2007. Indexing Options shows
"Waiting for Status Update," which never comes. (Is this a common
complaint?)
After installing WDS, on service clearly related to it appears:
searchindexingservice, or something like that. A little later it seems it
is joined by searchfilter.exe and searchprotocol.exe (more or less. I
haven't rechecked these names before writing).
On reboot, these two newer processes are gone for good. So I wonder what
these other processes do. Does the failure of the index result from the
suppression of one of these processes on reboot?
