Dear all:

I am trying to subscribe to some discussion groups on Yahoo and this
requires me a subscriber to have a Yahoo mail account.

Since I like to deal with all my mail in one single mail client, I was
wondering if there was a way for me to set up Entourage to receive all my
Yahoo web mail messages.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Joseph

Some countries still allow pop access to yahoo mail accounts for free, other
do not. I suspect you are in the USA, which does not provide POP access for
free accounts, but does for subscription accounts.

Thank you for your help.

Since I posted my message earlier today I have been able to subscribe to the
groups I wanted using my regular POP mail account. I was under the
impression I was only allowed to receive messages from the groups through
the Yahoo mail account since the groups are hosted by Yahoo. This is not
true. I still had to create a Yahoo account but when I chose the groups I
wanted to subscribe to I was given the choice of what e-mail address I
wanted to use to receive messages from the group. Everything worked well.

I've heard here of others having web mail account set up in entourage.
Entourage's account creation window even gives the option to create a
Hotmail account. What about IMAP ? What is this (sorry for the beginners
questions) ? I've also heard of people using G-Mail (Google ?) with
Entourage ? How can these things be done and what types of mail accounts
does Entourage support ?

Best regards,

Joseph

No, you must have misunderstood. Entourage is not a web-mail client. For
that you need a web browser.
Entourage's account creation window even gives the option to create a
Hotmail account.

Hotmail is a special case because it is owned by MS! They (naturally) have
access to the protocols and other info needed to connect and collect mail,
so Hotmail accounts that are normally accessed via webmail can be accessed
through entourage (but not very reliably).
What about IMAP ? What is this (sorry for the beginners

IMAP is a type of mail account where the mail is stored on a remote server
so it can be accessed form any location. See here:

Internet Message Access Protocol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I've also heard of people using G-Mail (Google ?) with
Entourage ?

Yes, you can set gmail to permit access to their service through a POP
account.
How can these things be done and what types of mail accounts
does Entourage support ?

Entourage supports POP, IMAP, Hotmail, Exchange & News accounts for
receiving messages. You can receive mail from any provider who supplies in
one of these formats.

Thank you very much for the information and answers to my questions. I now
understand the difference between the mail account types.
