web page login window rather than Windows net popup?

With a subweb that has unique permissions and anonymous browsing disabled,
I have successfully limited access to only intended visitors by being
presented the standard HTTP authentication Windows type network username and
password popup window. It there a method that I can use to construct a
webpage that will accomplish the same thing without using the standard
Windows network popup? I'd like to construct a log-in page with a form that
would post the username and password to the server avoiding the standard
Windows authentication popup..

Hi V_Tach,

I'm sure that there is a method but I'm also just as sure that it would
require specialized programming on the server to handle it.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid a custom dll on the server or
something similar would be the case but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't
missing something simple. I am aware of many third party utilities that
accomplish what I want but most do far more than what my needs are.
