Weird thing with Entourage

OS 9.1, Entourage 2001.
I typed this in a mail message: "Hi-i-i-i" When I added the second
quotation marks, the last i became an l. Repeatable. Does it do that
for everyone or am I just so special?

It actually turning into a capital I. This is Entourage's AutoCorrect
feature. You can either press Cmd-Z to undo it on a case-by-case basis, or
you can turn it off altogether in the Tools:AutoCorrect menu item.

OK, Dave, but can you explain to me why? Or what it thinks it's
auto-correcting to? The "correction" makes no sense. Curious. TIA.
