Don't *you* think it's difficult to help someone figure out which version of
Office he needs if you don't know what he wants to do with it?

Oh wait - maybe you're psychic? But if that were true, you would have just
posted the answer with the OP needing to ask.

I can't tell you as you haven't told us what you need/want to be able to do.

For example, do you need to...
Create legal documents and/or letters?
Automatically calculate data in a spreadsheet?
Create professional looking presentations?
Check email, manage an address book, use an electronic calendar, manage tasks, etc.?
Create and manage databases?
Create publications for print (such as postcards, newsletters, flyers, greeting cards, etc.), web, or email?

To find out what is in each edition of Microsoft Office, see this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/howtobuy/compare.mspx#EEAA

Also, do you qualify as an educational user? If you do, you could save money by getting the Microsoft Office
Student and Teacher Edition.

But the OP said he/she didn't think the STE was right. Unless we know what
he wants to do, you can't make a suggestion.
