What font is used for algebraic equations?

I need to write out the standard deviation formula for our company's
newsletter. Someone once told me that there is a font that is used for
algebraic equations. Can anyone help?

Hi Teri,

Most of the math symbols, including the sigma one that is sometimes used to
indicate standard deviation, are Greek characters available within Word via
Insert|Symbol from the menu.
