What is an adjective

H

Herb Tyson [MVP]

An adjective is a part of speech that describes a noun or a pronoun.

For example: "John is a man" contains no adjectives. If I say "John is a
tall man", however, then the word "tall" is an adjective that modifies the
word "man".

Had you asked, "What is a bloody adjective?", then "bloody'" would be an
adjective.

But note that this is not, strictly speaking, a Word question. And note that
nouns can be used as adjectives (nominal adjectives), as in the previous
sentence.

But, Suzanne... strictly speaking "What is an adjective?" *is* a "word"
question... is it not? ...well, maybe not a "Word" question, but certainly a
"word" question. <g>
