Across all Office products (but especially Word and Excel) what format does
Microsoft or anyone else recommend to optimise the ability ot read them in
the future, to -re-import them to the current version at the time or into
other products.

This is part of an archiving solution for an organisation that uses Office
products rannging from 2000 to 20003. Perhaps thre are someproducts that are
avialable theat even index the archived documents to make searching/finding
them years into the future easier as well.

Text(.txt) and Comma Separated Values(.csv) are the most portable
formats. Anything higher than that will have some formating that needs
to be accounted for.

For documents, Rich Text (RTF) is still a pretty universal standard and will
retain most formatting.
