I would like to know what is the point of "On My Computer?" I can
understand if I don't have an Exchange or POP account then maybe On My
Computer would make sense. But to have that folder there and unable to
remove it doesn't make much sense to me.
You'll notice that "On My Computer" is the only location for a folder
called "Outbox". You'll notice this exists nowhere else, not even in
IMAP and Exchage accounts. And you'll notice that all accounts send
through that Outbox.
What does that mean? Entourage needs to process everything somewhere on
your computer. If you've delayed sending then your message has to be
stored somewhere. The Outbox is where you'll find messages in transit.
Also, "On My Computer" is the only option for archiving messages to your
computer. Entourage doesn't support .pst files but it does support you
moving messages from POP, IMAP and Exchange accounts to a permanent
place in your E-mail database via "On My Computer".
Is it the best implementation? Probably not. But re-architecting
Entourage to work differently would be more work spent on something
that's probably not a high priority compared to data loss bugs or
feature requests such as implementing Tasks/Notes synchronization with
Exchange.
Definitely let Microsoft know your opinion about this I'd expect more
serious problems to be fixed before cosmetic issues.
