What the heck is a rcpthost?

This is driving me crazy. In one of my e-mail accounts, I have things set up
just as I always have, and just as the others are. It receives messages OK,
but when I try to send one, it gives an error message that says, "Sorry, but
that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts."

I'm not sure if this message is coming from Entourage or the mail host. It
comes back quite quickly, so I think it may be Entourage, but I can't find
rcpthost in the help file. I've checked and rechecked all my security and
domain settings and can't find anything wrong. Any ideas?

TIA

Hi Michael

I've just started experiencing the same problem. It's definitely
Entourage and I reckon something to do with the Mailing List Manager.
In theory, if the person/address your sending to isn't on the
'approved' mailing list you can't send the message. But I've tried
adding people I urgently need to get in touch with to the Mailing List
but still no joy.

I know this probably won't help you, but you're not alone!

It's a reply coming back from the mail server of your recipient. They are
operating a 'white list' policy, where they will only accept mail from
recipients they have approved.

This is not Entourage's fault, you would get the same problem whatever mail
client you used. It is up to the recipient to add your domain to it's
approved white-list.

I can confirm that it's definitely NOT the recipient's mail server, as I
tried it with many different recipients and got the same error message.

I finally discovered that my SMTP relay server was set up with a custom
password, which I had to reset, after which I was able to send messages with
no problem. Apparently, the whole thing was an authentication problem, but
whoever set it up didn't configure the error message very well.
