What's the point of an exchange server?

We are running Outlook 2000 on Win2K Pro, with an Exchange
2000 server. Yesterday, I ghosted an employee's computer
and she said all of her subfolders are gone that were
under her Inbox. I thought these would reside on the
Exchange server. Apparently I was wrong. What's the
purpose of backing up Exchange everyday if the email isn't
stored on there? I'm now very confused about my Exchange
server.

Can I get this info back for her somehow, or is it toasted?

Folders can reside on the Exchange Server and on the hard
drive. At work, I have my personal folders set up for my
hard drive, and business info on the server. I don't know
about getting the info back. Someone else will have to
help you with that one.

All the subfolders are gone but everything else is still there??? Has she
tried clicking on the +sign so the inbox folder would expand? Happens very
often that people forget to look there. If the delivery location of your
account settings are set to Exchange than messages are saved by default to
the Exchange server.
