What's this mean: "Calendar (4)"

This is listed in my Folder List: Calendar (4)

It used to be simply Calendar until I created a NetFolder for Calendar then
deleted it two days later because I couldn't get it to work the way I wanted
with the other machine. I'd like to square this away to the original
status... unless it's already there.

It means that there are 4 unread items. Easiest way to spot them is to
switch your view to by category (or something that gives you a table view)
and look for the items that are in bold print.
