What's wrong with this IncludeText?

When I use CTRL-f9 to insert the curly brackets {} and type INCLUDETEXT
"C:\\Documents and Settings\\Owner\\My Documents\\InsetTextDemo.doc" \*
MERGEFORMAT

I get Error! Cannot open file.

I've doublechecked the long file name and it's certainly accurate.

Duh! Well, yes, it should have been but I've just rechecked and that's
how I'd misspelled the original file name (I took both the path and the
file name from the properties window by cutting and pasting).

I've tried it with another file name in the same folder and it can't
open that either.

And just to add to the confusion I've trashed trashed the original
document into which I wanted to InsertText, used exactly the same syntax
in another one, and it worked perfectly.

One of life's mysteries.

filename." Since you're sure of the path I wonder if there is a permission
issue of some sort at work.

Try using:
Insert > File
Select your file.
Click on the little down triangle on the Insert button and tell it to insert
as link.

I would add a \! switch instead of the \* MERGEFORMAT switch. This keeps
fields in the original document from being updated in the new document.
(This is usually what you want, but not always.

As I said in the post above I cured the problem by junking the target
file and starting again. It may, I suspect have been something to do
with my originally misspelling the file name -- IIRC I forgot to use the
..doc suffix -- which would, from what you say, have given me that error
message. Then I'm not sure what would have happened by somehow the
field wasn't updating properly. I can't really think what else would
have caused the problem and I don't want to try to replicate it.

Many thanks for your help -- the "Duh!" was aimed at me, btw; I thought
"I can't have been so stupid" then I realised I had been and even then I
realised it still wasn't the cause.
