When replying, OL says Word is busy...

This problem just started happening about two weeks ago,
but I can't figure out the cause or solution. I'm using
Outlook XP (from the Office XP suite) on Windows XP.

If I try to reply to an email (or forward it), OL will
pause... then come back with the error message: "This
form requires Word as your email editor, but Word is
either busy or cannot be found. The or will be opened in
the Outlook editor instead." (That's the exact word-for-
word message)

Once I get that error, it won't even try to use Word as
my editor again unless I close it and open it again.

This happens off a cold or warm boot, btw. And Word is
not open or being used otherwise.

If you Ctrl-Alt-Del, Word does not show under
applications - responding or not. However, winword.exe is
listed in the processes. You can end the task, but it
doesn't change anything. As soon as you try to reply to a
message, it will start winword.exe and then say it's busy
or can't be found.

Now here's what's really odd - I can create a new message
just fine. But as soon as I try to reply or forward, it
says Word is busy or can't be found.

Anybody got the slightest clue what's going on here or
how to get it to stop????

Thanks!

PS - before you say, "Well then, just don't use Word as
your editor," I know that's a possibility. But I need the
auto-text feature that only works if Word is your editor,
so I really want to get it working again. Thanks!
