When you open Excel it runs in Dos and doesn't work?

[How to fix Dos prblems]

I tried to open Excel and a Dos window appeared and loads of funny writing
scrolled through the window with a black background and at the end it said
'This program can not run in Dos mode'
Please help me i'd be very grateful
