First, you have to decide whether or not you want to learn Access. It’s a
lot of work but then it is extremely powerful, versatile and useful program
for storage, retrieval and use of information.

If you decide “yesâ€, I recommend doing all of these at once:

- Get and read a small “how to use Access bookâ€
- Start browsing through the on-line “for beginners†info sources
recommended by others in this forum.
- Start doing (struggling through) a very simple application (like your
Christmas card list). After that repost your original application and ask
the forum to recommend a structure.
- Ask questions (in this forum) when you get stuck or when you think you
could use some guidance

I agree with Fred! Despite all of Microsoft's hype, you cannot simply jump
into Access with no preparation and create a functional database! You need to
buy a basic book, preferably one that either comes with a CD with sample
databases on it or gives a website where you can download the same. In my
experience, learning an app/language is 100 times easier when you have a
functioning program on the screen in front of you. In reading the basic book,
pay special attention to the names of the various objects, where they belong
and what they're used for.

Here's some sites, listed from the easiest to understand to the more
difficult.

Chrystal has an excellent “basics†tutorial:

This is a little more advanced, but still a great starting point, having 23
well written, well defined, clearly named chapters.
