Where do the e-addresses hide?

Hi all--

I've searched all over, and checked the Microsoft FAQs,
but can't find the answer to this one:

You know the e-mail addresses that Outlook auto-completes
for you.
Where do they hide? I'd like to be able to review the
list for various uses.
My Outlook address book is empty, so they're not there.
I looked in the Auto-Text control box, butthey're not
there, either.

Do they hide in a nearby deli or something?

In a file with a *.nk2 extension, if you want to delete the odd entry then
highlight and delete it as it is suggested but if you want to remove all of
them then delete the nk2 file (with Outlook closed)

Search for *.nk2 files. It's 1 file per profile. Make sure you include
hidden and system files and folders when searching for the file.

Hello-

Thanks for the reply. I did find the folder after running
a search per your instructions.
I copied it onto my desktop so I won't mess up the
original, but so far I cannot open it in a way that makes
it useful.
The file itself has no file extension, so I tried
Notepad, then Word. I just got pages of gibberish with
names occasionally interspersed. Then I tried Outlook,
but it would not open the file at all.

Any idea how to open it so that I can read the e-mail
addresses?

Why would you want this? It's just a cache of previously types addresses.

Anyway, you can't open it in a text editor you'll need to by this program;

Hi all--

After a number of exchanges and research on my part, I've
found out what the file is called and where it is. It's
the AutoComplete cache, located deep down the Doc's and
Settings file.

The file extension for it is .NK2

Does anyone know of a way to open and read it without a
ton of gibberish? I've tried Word, Notepad, and Notebook,
all to no avail. I also tried to use find and replace to
get rid of some of the gibberish, but that didn't work
either.

Ideas?

Microsoft has an updated tool but you have to contact product support to
obtain it.

Hello again--

Hopefully, this is the last e-mail of this thread!

I searched the Outlook 2002 Product Support web pages
(especially in the downloads area), but found nothing.

Any idea where to look?

You have to contact them by phone whether you qualify for the tool is
another matter!!

Sorry that came across a bit abrupt what I meant was that reading between
the lines then the tool is only available if you are having a problem with
nk2 file, just a desire to edit the names may not be enough to qualify.
