All versions of Outlook keep addresses in the Contacts folder. Outlook 97
and 98 also employed the "Personal Address Book" service, which kept
addresses in a file whose type is ".pab". Outlook 2000, 2002, and 2003 use
the Contacts folder exclusively and don't use the PAB, but can import older
PAB into the Contacts folder.

I have moved my contacts from Outlook 97 (under windows 98) to Outlook 2002
(under Windows XP). I did this by moving my PST file fron one partition to
the other partition directory that contained the PST file. I overwrote the
file. At first I was not able to open the contacts. I did some minupulation
within profiles and now I can view my contacts. I also can open up my
"address book". However, when I try to open up contact option by pressing
the "to:" button. It is blank. How can i fix this, so that my address book
data is there like it had been in the past with Outlook 97?

Overwriting the default PST has on occasion caused Outlook to behave
strangely. Make a copy of your OL97 PST. Then try creating a new profile
and specifying a new PST. Add the Outlook Address Book service and, in
Outlook, make sure the Contacts folder presents itself as an Outlook Address
Book (see my prior post). Then, click File>Open>Outlook Data File>Personal
Folders File and select your Outlook 97 PST. Drag-and-drop the contents of
the old PST to the new and see if that helps.
