Where is the address book?

Hello am having some problem to get to the address book. When I click the
address book icon I get the error message below. Why is this? After clicking ok
in it I get the address book (empty) and I cannot add anything in it. My contact
list contains 200 addresses. I am using Win XP Pro with Outlook 2003.

Please help and many thanks.

The address list could not be displayed. The contacts folder associated with
this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you
do not have permissions. For Information on how to remove this folder from the
outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Office Outlook Help.

Contacts are never added to the address book, nor do they exist there. All
Contact data resides in your Contacts Folder.
It would help if you stated the steps that produced your problem.
It is not unusual for the Outlook Address Book to "lose track" of the
connection to its Contacts Folder when you move or import your PST or update
your Outlook version or OS. Use the following steps to reset the connection.
Note that in some instances you may actually have to remove the Outlook
Address Book completely from your Profile, close Outlook, and then re-add it
before you can get it to work.

Go to Tools | E-mail accounts, select "View or change existing directories
or address books", and click OK. If you don't see the OAB in the Directories
and Address Books list, click the Back button, then select "Add a new
directory or address book", then "Additional Address Books", and add the
OAB. Then keep clicking Back until you get back to the first dialog box,
and go back to the Directories and Address Books list as you did earlier.
Once the OAB appears in the list, select it and then click Change to make
sure the Contacts folder(s) you want to display are listed. If any of them
aren't listed, you'll need to enable those Contacts folders as Outlook
Address Books by right clicking the folder, selecting Properties, clicking
the Outlook Address Book tab, and checking the "Show this folder as an
E-mail address book" box. Make sure you restart Outlook after making these
changes.

Hi Russ,

Thanks for your detailed explanation. This is very much appreciated. I did what
you said and guess what? Everything works perfectly now ;-) Thanks again.

Also is there a way to in Outlook 2003 to 'send' or 'receive' emails with only
one function at a time? This is so easily done in OE but cannot see it in O2003.

One more question (if am not too demanding) - are there good add-ons for O2003
to make it more powerful and more easy to manage through?

Thanks again for your kind help.

Cheers.

There is a down arrow by the Send/receive button on the
menu bar. If you use it you can select Send only. You can
also set up send receive groups. Visit the Office web
site for downloads for Outlook.
