Hi Tim,
To add a bit to Chris's answer, both MS Office XP and
Office 2000 are now 'discontinued' versions.
(Office System 2003 is the current release).
If you're looking at purchasing a new package note that
MS no longer has available replacement CDs for Office 2000,
in case that's a consideration and will not be doing further
updates to the apps in that version.
As far as 'better', it depends on what features you use now.
MS Office XP does not have the Small Business Tools of
Office 2000, for example.
