Why am i getting fax numbers as separate contacts when i try to em

For some strange reason, when i call up contacts in Outlook, i get two
contact entries for each contact -- one for email and one for their fax at
some strange address (addressee@0-000-000-0000) which includes their fax
number.

How do I turn this off? The fax numbers are all entered in the correct
field and show normally in all contact views. This is bizarre and no one i
know using outlook has this problem...

Has anyone seen this and could provide guidance?

It's not a "strange" reason, it's a very good one. Outlook can integrate
with FAX programs. Consequently, a FAX number is a perfectly legitimate
elecronic address and so Outlook shows you that address.

You haven't spoken with many people, then, have you? There is no way to
disable this ability in Outlook, but you can trick it. Just add a character
string (like "F" or "FAX") in front of the fax number in the field. Outlook
will not be able to tell that it's a real fax number and won't show it to
you in the address book. There are also third-party tools that you can buy
that will help in this if you have a lot of contacts.

Naturally, adding that string will break Outlook's ability to integrate with
FAX programs so if you use Outlook to send FAX, it will no longer be able to
do so.
