Why can't I see links in the Edit menu for Powerpoint

I have paste-linked some data from an Excel sheet into the datasheet of a
graph on a Powerpoint page. I would like to do two things in Powerpoint:

open the link
edit the link so that the source data becomes the same data range in another
file

However the Links option on the Edit menu is greyed out.

What should I do?

Thanks

Thanks for your answer. Do you know why this state of affairs exists? If I
had created the chart in Excel and pasted it into Powerpoint I wouldn't have
had any problems. But is seems that the greater choice of charts styles and
formats in Powerpoint comes at a price. Pretty odd for a programme that has
been through several incarnations.
