Why did I lose "form protect" when I added a radio button?

I created a form that used checkboxes and I wanted to change them to radio
buttons..since I did not seem to have that option in my "form" bar, I used
the one in the "web tools" bar. As soon as I did, the "protect" icon in my
forms bar became disabled and remained disabled even after I removed the
radio button. Why??

Probably you have macro security set to "High"? Try setting it to medium and
then open the document. If you're prompted about enabling macros, enable them
and see if the option is available again.

You should probably try copying all but the last paragraph mark to a new
document and throw the one you've been working with away.

There's no option in Word that let's you have a radio button in a document
without triggering macro security.
