why did you change file open lists to show files 1st, then direct.

I prefer the old file opening/saving priority of listing directories first,
then individual files. It seems that in the newer version of word for
example, you have started listing files first, then directories. This seems
to presume that most people use a flat file structure, ie, no structure at
all, and it penalizes those of us who utilize a hierarchal directory
structure to store our files in logically organized fashion.

Nothing has changed in recent versions. You just haven't set the
options properly.

Try this: In the upper right corner of the dialog, next to the Tools
button, is the Views button (the icon is a little picture of the
dialog). Click it, and choose Details from the dropdown. There are now
column headings above lists of the files, their sizes, dates, etc.
Click the heading of the Name column. This is a toggle between
ascending and descending order of the items -- click it again to
reverse the order, back and forth. When they're listed in ascending
order, the directories will be listed first. Once you have them in
that order, you can go back to the Views dropdown and select whichever
view you prefer, and the order will remain ascending.

By the way, despite these newsgroups being hosted on the Microsoft
server, it's rare that any Microsoft employees read these posts. So
asking "why did you..." isn't appropriate -- "we" didn't.
