Why does Language tools in Word stop functioning?

I'm using Office 2003 and today when I tried to spellcheck, I got an error
message saying Word can't find English (U.S.) tools. Sure enough, none of
the language tools can be used without an error message. This has happened
to me with Word before in other versions. Anyone know a quick fix other than
having to dump and reload the whole program?

I should have used the term Proofing tools. Sorry. The error message says
"Word can't find proofing tools for English (U.S.)"

If you run a file search do you turn up any *.lex files? How about when search
mssp*.dll?

My guess is that you either don't have them installed, had them installed and
deleted them, or Office for some reason can't find them any more...
