Why does Norton Anti-Spam often freeze up in MS Outlook 2003?

Valser

About half the time, when I click on the Norton "This is Spam" to send a
misguided junk mail message to be marked as BLOCKED, both Norton and my
Outlook 2003 freeze up and will not close without a forced shut-down. The
rest of the time it works beautifully. What's the problem? And how do I fix
it?
Thanks,
Valser

1. Disable Norton integration with Outlook.
2. Ask Norton.

Thanks, Milly, for the quick reply. However, I don't want to disable Norton;
I want to use it. When it works, it works very well. But when it doesn't,
it's a pain in the neck.

I did disable and re-enable it a couple of times, but the results were
always the same - working properly for a period of time and then suddenly NOT
responding - no changes in settings or configuration.

Hoping to learn what the problem is and fix it or work around it.

Per your suggestion, I will try again to contact Norton. I tried several
times, but wasn't able to find a PERSON to consult at Norton or Symantec.
And it was not among the listed FAQ on the website. Any clue to finding a
board like this one or a means to customer service tech at Norton/Symantec?

Thanks,
Valser

Norton and other AVs that integrate with Outlook have a known problem with
multiple emails being sent/received and other problems. Check
groups.google.com for the Outlook groups and see how many people have
reported the same problem that is solved by disabling the AV scanning.

The scanning of incoming/outgoing mail is just a marketing ploy, provides no
additional protection if you already have real-time on-access scanning
enabled (by defaul for most AV programs.) Your mail is check by the
real-time engine once it is opened and if you are trying to prevent yourself
from sending infected mails by scanning outgoing mails, you are about 3
steps too late.
