why does the cursor move around on its own during typing?

Whenever I type anything, my cursor will arbitrarily jump around without
warning or prompting. It is extremely frustrating and time-consuming. I'm
very new at this but I'm trying real hard. :) I type on Optonline e-mail,
Hotmail, and MS word processor. And it always happens. Thanks!

Are you using Microsoft Publisher? This newsgroup is designed for people
using Microsoft Publisher to ask questions about or discuss this particular
program.

Are you using a notebook computer? It may be that your wrists are
accidentally touching the touch pad on your notebook when you are typing,
causing the mouse to move and possibly the cursor. There are normally
options in your Mouse settings to reduce this.

Do you have speech recognition enabled? This is known to cause random
cursor movement and other activities while you type if you have speech
recognition enabled in Office 2003 programs (such as Word 2003, Publisher
2003, etc.)

Thanks for the help, Ed! I hope I can find this place again. I'll attempt to
try your suggestions, but I don't think I can quite do it at this point.
Sounds complicated. Maybe I'll do it when someone's here who know's what
they're doing. And thanks again, and yes, I do have a desktop and use the
mousepad. But I'm very conscious of it, and the problem still exists
constantly, even when I'm sure that I haven't touched the pad. So, I printed
out your answer, and hopefully it will help. Many thanks, Patty
