Why is Entourage 2008 Listening and Looking on Port 2223

Why is Entourage 2008 listening on Port 2223. (lsof -i:2223 points me to the Entourage PID) and,

Why does it appear to be looking across my network for other copies of Entourage via Port 2223?

My network admin will make me downgrade if I can't stop this errant behaviour.

I'm not sure about the port number but earlier versions of Office,
including 2004, do network checks for copies running on other machines
with the same serial numbers. This is nothing new and most high-end
applications do this including Adobe products, QuarkXPress, Extensis
Suitcase, etc.

Thanks for your help - seems like Office X used port 2222 and now Office 2008 uses 2223 for Network PID Checking. This OSX Hint helped me understand this issue more and hopefully resolve this unwanted network traffic &lt;http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20020406142423494&gt;. Problem didn't seem to occur in Office 2004 which seems odd.
