Why Outlook 2003 will not archive messages in the inbox

When I run a manual archive or set up autoarchive, all folders in the folders
list except the inbox get archived. Why will the inbox not archive these
message?

Inbox is not for storage and cannot be archived. You must move mail to other
folders to archive.

Thanks, I resolved this issue however I don't think it worked that way in
older versions of OL. No biggie though, as I said I found a way to archive
messages I wanted out of my OL inbox.
