Why use Entourage? (need high-level advice)

Dean

I currently use Outlook w/ Windows XP & POP Acct... but now am getting
a Powerbook G4 this weekend (Woo Hoo) and need some advice.

When would I want to use Entourage instead of Mac Mail, iCal, and
Address Book?

Advantages of Entourage?

Appreciate whatever advice I can get,

Hi Dean
Entourage is an integrated program, very similar to Outlook while Mail.
Ical and Address book are stand alone. The new version of Mail is
fantastic and, with Spotlight, makes searching very easy. Smart
mailboxes are really good too. Personally though, I still prefer
Entourage - having all the above functions in one program plus the
Projects feature just means that i work more efficiently.

It does news. I don't know about the new (Tiger) version of Mail but the old
version doesn't, and I find having email and newsgroups in the one programme
a _big_ advantage.

One of the "inherent" differences, I think, is integration.

You can use the Office Address Book (which is kept in Entourage) for data
merges with Word. A lot of third-party applications are set up to integrate
with iCal, etc--there's a multitude of small developers for the Mac offering
plug-ins for the apple apps.

However, you can also eliminate that difference and get the best of both
worlds with something like Paul Berkowitz's scripts that sync the two
calendars and address books.

But really, it's probably personal preference--with a POP account, why not
set them to leave messages on server and use both for a while and see which
you prefer? Actually, I think the scripts mentioned above have a 14-day
demo period so you could avoid double-entering that stuff and if you make
your decision quickly enough, move everything to your chosen app without
paying for them.

I prefer having news in the same application, and I'm heavily dependent on
Word's AutoCorrect feature, which Entourage uses as well.
