Will not delete a specific group of emailsfrom the deleted emails folder

I have tried deleting a group of old emails several different ways and they just won't be deleted. I can delete other emails, but these old emails will get an x and a line through, but then they are still there. I have tried individually and as a group, purging them, selecting delete from server, but they are still there.

You're describing the behavior of deleted items in an IMAP account but
purging should be the way to make them go away.

Select each folder in the account where you see this problem and then
right-click or Control-click it. In the contextual menu that appears
select "Repair Message List".
