Will Office 97 work safely if installed in a Windows XP notebook?

My daughter has a Dell notebook at school with Windows XP. She does not like
Word Perfect and I was wondering if she could install Microsoft Office 97
software safely. I have the original CD that came with her old Windows 95
computer. I installed this Office 97 software in a HP computer with Windows
XP and it's working fine. Once a customer service rep told me that
installing very old software could affect other programs in an XP computer.
Any input is welcome.

Read the end user license agreement; if it came with the PC it's probably an
OEM copy and tied to the original PC.

PS
The customer service rep is talking BULL.

Thanks. I don't see why it wouldn't work if she installed it. I have all
the OEM original code numbers and used that when I installed it on this
Windows XP two years ago.
