I could not get the test drive version of office to connect to my exchange
2000 server at all....it just would not work....and it was version 2004
(11.0.0).
I finally figured out why....because it was version 2004 (11.0.0)....and no
matter what I did...I could not get the 2004 sp2 to install/update over it.
So I un-installed the test drive version. I then installed the purchased
office 2004 (11.0.0)...and then ran the suggested office update...which
worked really well...it downloaded and installed the office 2004 sp2. I
then started up entourage and tried to configure my connection to my
exchange server using the configuration wizard...which of course
failed...but when I started up the manual configuration dialog...wow...I
even got a prompt for non-standard web-dav ports....just the fix I needed to
connect to my exchange server...where due to non-standard support from
adelphia cable service..I have to host my owa connection on something other
than port 80....set the web-dav port to match my configuration...and
entourage works beautifully.....
Now that I can play with entourage properly I find it to be a better
'outlook' client than outlook 2000..which is what I currently use on my
windows computers.....nice...very nice....I'm definitely all smiles now..
Now..why in the world when I download the office 2004 testdrive from
microsoft am I still getting the old version (11.0.0) when the new version
(post sp2) is so much better to use.....does not Microsoft want people to be
able to judge their product my trying the CURRENT version...and not
something that has required TWO (2) service packs to fix/enhance....???
Microsoft...please get your s**t together.....please...
