Hello....

Will the testdrive version of entourage allow it to connect to an
exchange/2000 server..???

Because right now I cannot get it to connect at all....interestingly enough
I got the apple/mail.app to connect right away..no pain at all.....:)

TIA for any and all assistance with this...:)

It should, but note that I don't believe it has the extra Exchange
functionality available in the full version of Entourage 2004 SP2.

I think Mail connects to the Exchange Server using a standard IMAP account,
so you might want to try creating an IMAP account and see if that works.

Note that you need to have SP2 for Exchange Server 2000 applied for Exchange
account functionality to work in Entourage. Also make sure that your
settings are correct.

I could not get the test drive version of office to connect to my exchange
2000 server at all....it just would not work....and it was version 2004
(11.0.0).

I finally figured out why....because it was version 2004 (11.0.0)....and no
matter what I did...I could not get the 2004 sp2 to install/update over it.

So I un-installed the test drive version. I then installed the purchased
office 2004 (11.0.0)...and then ran the suggested office update...which
worked really well...it downloaded and installed the office 2004 sp2. I
then started up entourage and tried to configure my connection to my
exchange server using the configuration wizard...which of course
failed...but when I started up the manual configuration dialog...wow...I
even got a prompt for non-standard web-dav ports....just the fix I needed to
connect to my exchange server...where due to non-standard support from
adelphia cable service..I have to host my owa connection on something other
than port 80....set the web-dav port to match my configuration...and
entourage works beautifully.....

Now that I can play with entourage properly I find it to be a better
'outlook' client than outlook 2000..which is what I currently use on my
windows computers.....nice...very nice....I'm definitely all smiles now..:)

Now..why in the world when I download the office 2004 testdrive from
microsoft am I still getting the old version (11.0.0) when the new version
(post sp2) is so much better to use.....does not Microsoft want people to be
able to judge their product my trying the CURRENT version...and not
something that has required TWO (2) service packs to fix/enhance....???

Microsoft...please get your s**t together.....please...:)

Is it inobvious that the Office 2004 SP2 updater only updates the purchased
product? What, if anything, would you suggest to make it more obvious.

We aren't always able to release the test drive version of the product at
the same time, but we hear you. :)

Despite having a period at the end of that sentence, it was supposed to be a
question mark. What, if anything, would you suggest to make it more obvious?
If we had a test drive updater, we'd probably call it the test drive
updater.

The Exchange Inbox is where the mail from the Exchange server is locally
cached; there's no "moving" involved. If you're talking about the Inbox on
the local computer, it's a different issue. Do you have any rules to move
Exchange messages? If so, are they set to move them to the correct folder?

We must be making it more easy than hard, or you wouldn't be using it in the
first place, and we must be making it more easy than hard in comparison to
other products, or you'd buy them instead. The best we can do is respond to
your problem reports and try and help you with problems, either by finding
the user error, finding a workaround for our bug, or in the long term,
fixing and releasing patches for our products. It's clearly not a perfect
system, and we appreciate the patience and help of the customers willing to
give us feedback.
Hear me...hear this....HAVE A NICE DAY...I will Have a Nice day as soon as I
stop using MICROSOFT....:(......

I notice your message was sent using Microsoft Entourage. I hope your day is
going better anyway.
