Will this software install on XP Media Center?

Hi all,

I ordered a Dell with Windows XP Media Center.

Will I be able to install Office XP Professional 2002 on my new computer?
The software is brand new (well, never used before).

I'm not super techy, but reading the posts on here makes me think maybe my
software isn't compatible with XP Media Center. Now, I'm freaking out (haha).

Thanks!

Yes, Office XP Professional is indeed compatible
with Windows XP Media Center. After installing it,
visit the Office Update web site and download the
available updates, beginning with Office XP
Service Pack 3.

Uninstall the trial version of Office 2003 **first**. You will then be able
to install Office XP. Assuming it is full version and not an OEM version, of
course.

Thanks so much for the info. I just wasn't sure if my Office XP Pro would
install since it's the older 2002 version. Ah, to be pc illiterate (haha).

Would you be able to supply the link to the updates?

M

milkspld

Yes, I believe it's a full version of the software (has the 5 programs
listed). I bought it legit and never used it (I think the deal was to sell
off older software stock).

What is an OEM version?

I'm not sure if the new pc has a trial version or not... it'll be delivered
tomorrow.

Thanks!

Was it in a box when you got it or shrink-wrapped? Generally the OEM is just
shrink-wrapped and I *think* it is marked OEM.

Your new PC will have the trial version installed. Get rid of it before you
do anything with Office XP.

Hi,

It comes in a dvd-size case. Software was offered to my company at a
discounted price to employees, and I think it came directly from Microsoft.
Something like an Employee Home Use thingy.

I don't see OEM on the cover anywhere.

Thanks

Home Use is a different critter. I'd suggest talking to the person who is in
charge of your company's Home Use program.

What exactly is the problem? The thread is broken somehow so I can't

Hi Anon,

This was my original question...

"I ordered a Dell with Windows XP Media Center.

Will I be able to install Office XP Professional 2002 on my new computer?
The software is brand new (well, never used before).

I'm not super techy, but reading the posts on here makes me think maybe my

The answer was yes, it's compatible. However, I'm uncertain whether my
software is the regular full version since I bought it as a deal offered to
my employer for home use. I didn't get the impression (when purchased) that
it's a dumb-downed version, or has to be linked to work, so to speak.

YES you will be able to. There ar no known incompatibility problems.

No problem. you should be able to.

It is unlikely to be dumb-downed version. Your employer must be in a
special scheme whereby they are allowed to distribute software to
staff. We do the same here at UK universities where students can buy
very cheap software from us and the software we supply are full version
which are sold in shops at exorbitant prices!.
