Windows file paths not matching up with mac

James

I'm sure this has come up before somewhere but i havent been able to
find anything.

We have a couple of macs running on our windowsn network and are using
entourage 2004 for email.

When someone sends an email they can put in a folder/file location in
there as a link, which would be something like:
\\server\folder\filename.doc

This link wont work on the macs though.
I believe this is due to the location being different on the macs (is
it smb:\\server\folder\filename?)
So how can i go about making the link to the file location work on
both?

the file share is up and running and saved into finder on the mac pc -
so they can at a pinch access the files by following the path through
finder, although this isn't ideal.

Cheers

James

You place the file on a web server and give people the URL to it. ; )

Or you give users of different platforms different file URLs.

Cheers for the response.
Is there no other way? I would have thought there would be some sort
of fix for it, maybe an app to change the file location automatically?
Its not feasible to us send the users a different file URL - we've got
100 or so PCs and only 2 macs here.

The web server is not a bad idea though - if no other method exists i
might look into setting one up.
