Windows XP Pro - Outlook 2003

Hi,

I recently replaced my Outlook.pst file with a backed up one and by doing
so, I now have 3 entries called "Personal Folders", instead of 1, that
contain *exactly* the same thing. Needless to say it's completely useless
and that I would very much like to get rid of the extra entries. This said,
when right clicking on the additional 2 entries, I am not allowed to close
them... Would have I missed something obvious? Sure, it's not a critical
problem, but I just find it irritating, not to mention completely illogical
to have 3 identical entries...

Cheers, Alan.

You've got a damaged mail profile. Recreate it by going to Control Panel->
Mail-> button Show Profiles... Then connect to your old pst-file by File->
Open-> Outlook Data File...

I am not sure how that is supposed to help, unless I missed something...

Indeed, I don't have my old PST file anymore, since I replaced it by a
backed up version, after it got corrupted... Note that the backed up version
used to work perfectly fine.

So, all I did was to physically replace my corrupted PST file with one that
I know used to work fine. From there, however, Outlook decided to list 3
entries that are exactly the same...

As far as I can tell, my PST file is not (or should I say: should not be)
the issue, but rather Outlook 2003, if anything, which wouldn't surprise me
too much, considering all the problems that exist with it... (sorry being
sarcastic, but...)

Cheers, Alan.

This action is almost guaranteed to corrupt your mail profile.

In this particular case, I would agree. This said, I know that I have done
this in the past and it had always been ok... Then again, it was after a
fresh install of Outlook, so the "original" PST file was "empty" and that
might explain why it had always gone ok?...

Anyway... Say that I now have a corrupted mail profile... How do I go about
fixing it?

Cheers, Alan.

The Mail applet in the Control Panel.

Sorry for not sounding appreciative, but imagine I was a complete newbie.
There is no way I could have solved my problem with this kind of
suggestion... See what I have done in my reply to Roady.

Thanks for a hint as to what to do though... Alan.

Your reply suggested that I replace my PST file with my old PST file. How
can I do that since I don't have it?!

Anyway, I finally got it to work... Here are the steps I followed:

- Shutdown Outlook,
- Move my PST file into a different directory,
- Go to Control Panel and open the Mail applet (under User Accounts for
those who use Windows XP),
- Click on Show Profiles,
- Remove my profile (I had only one, like most users, I would think),
- Clicked Ok, etc.
- Replaced the newly created PST file by my original one,
- Start Outlook and voila, I now have only 1 entry instead of 3...

Thanks for the hint though, Alan.

With the "old" pst-file I meant the pst-file from the just removed profile.

Good to hear you've got it solved! :)
