when I receive some emails from windows computers with attachments, it turns the files into winmail.dat files. what are they and how do i turn them back to the original format

Do you mean this STILL has not been fixed in Entourage 2008?!! How
hard is it for Microsoft to port their own code over from Outlook?

I can't say, as I've never received this type of attachment. That being
said, Entourage and Outlook are two entirely different applications; their
code base is completely different, so it is very difficult to port code from
Outlook to Entourage and vice-versa.

Yes, I know Entourage was derived from Claris eMailer and has taken on
aspects of Outlook. But compaction and file code are fairly separate
from other operations and are not platform dependent, so there is no
reason it could not be easily ported. I can see where other features
might be a problem, but not decoding winmail.dat files.

The problem appears to be political, not functional. <rant> This is
why so many of us hate Microsoft even though we use their programs.
They think they know better than the users. At least we Mac users can
avoid Windows. </rant>
