wireless connections fail on cold start but are ok after standby

Does anyone have any clues why my Amilo D1845 laptop initially fails to see
wireless connections on a normal cold start.
When I go to standby mode and power up again everything is fine.
I'm running Win2003 5.1 SP2 and Outlook 2003 SP1.
