wmv files won't scale consistently

I've added a wmv (v9) movie via "insert movie from file"
I've resized it (enlarged it) in powerpoint.

sometimes when i play it, it plays as i intend it: resized.
sometimes the larger area is black, but the movie plays at its native
size within the black area.
same computer.
can't figure out why.
thoughts?

Which version of PowerPoint are you using?

It could be that the settings in Windows Media Player are influencing how
your WMV plays. In WMP, choose View | Video Size... - does that make a
difference?

It might be that your resize changed the aspect ratio of the video. I know
within Windows Media Player that it won't do that but puts the black bars
around the content to fill up the size of the playing area. I think Windows
Media Player 10 might allow you to change the aspect ratio but that may
never trickle down to PowerPoint.
