Won't Send or Receive Mail - Outlook 97

My operating system is Windows 98SE w/all updates and I
use Outlook 97 Ver. 8.04.5619.
When I open Outlook it may/may not search for new mail as
it did in the past. If I use F5 or Tools-Send/Receive
Mail, my Symantic Crash Guard comes up with a window. It
says, "Norton Crash Guard Assistant Intercepted a crash in
OleMainThreadWndName". Also, "This effects both the
Program (Outlook) and the System". The recommendation is
to,"Terminate the program to avoid a system wide crash".
The Details button in the window says, "Technical Crash
Details: MAPISP32 caused Fault #c0000005 in (Unknown)at
address at 017f:0a0ddc48.
Also, a Google search on the 'OleMainThreadWndName' takes
me to Windows 2000 references. There is an incomplete
installation of Windows 2000 on my PC that I do not use.
Question 1 - How do I eliminate the lockup and make
Outlook useable?
Question 2 - If I am unable to fix Outlook, can I use
Outlook Express ver 6? I will need to transfer a very
large Contacts file to Express if I do this.
Thanks, Chet Smith (e-mail address removed)
