Word 2000 300 pgs w/graphics and tables. How to keep size down?

I have a large word 2000 file. I have reduced the image file size and then
got the size down to 78,000. However as I am editing the text and tables
(add,delete, etc) the file has jumped to 198, 765.

Help! how can I reduce the size and keep down. Anything in word 2000 or
any add ons?

Thank you :)

Hi Ann,

The table structure 'new' in Word 2000 was a bit
iffy in some situations.

If you turn off the preview choice in File=>Properties
and try saving the file to a new file name does the
file shrink again?

Have you turned off the [x] Allow Fast Edits choice
in Tools=>Options=>Save?

I don't know if this applies to Word 2000, but it does to 2003.

I've seen files get at least 10X the size of the original when VERSIONS are
enabled. The only way I've been able to get the file size back to something
manageable is to turn off versions and delete past versions. You can access
it using File -> Versions.
