PROBLEM: Word is intermittantly losing edits and
reverting to older saved versions, sometimes several
versions older than most recent. This >seems< to happen
only after the documents have sat untouched for a while
(several weeks?), and affects both the TXT and the DOC
copies.
BACKGROUND: Running Word 6.0 on Win2K (and previously NT4
sp6) PC, editing an 86 page (and growing) document.
Document is regularly edited with changes and additions
saved to local C: and a batchfile run after save to copy
all changed files to an Archive PC. There is only one copy
of the TXT and one copy of the DOC file on the local HD,
and they're both in the correct path/folder. The issue has
already resulted in the total loss of several months of
work, resulting in the creation of the 'batchfile copy to
Archive' workaround. The issue began several months ago
and continued unchanged following update to Win2K. No
error msgs. Version control is Not enabled. Current
versions restore from Archive PC without problem.
Any suggestions or ideas regarding root cause and fix
would be Very Deeply Appreciated.
