Word appears to open but only on taskbar

It's difficult to explain what happens, but basically today Word appears to
open in that there's a quick flash of the splash screen and the icon appears
on my taksbar, but the application doesn't appear on the desktop. None of
the options when I right click on the taskbar icon have any effect. The only
way I can get things back to normal is using system restore.

The same thing happened 2 days ago with Notepad - so I'm wondering why and
if there's something in my setup that's causing this to happen.

Hi Graham,

It's possible that Word is opening off screen.
When Word is open (and without much else open) see if right clicking a blank spot on the taskbar and selecting 'Cascade Windows'
helps bring it back.

Hi Bob

Thanks for the suggestion - it might just be the answer. Now i think of it
it's just possible that the application was open on my 2nd monitor which I'd
forgotten to switch on - but I'll try your idea as well.
