word blue background

WIN98SE Office 2000

Recently my blue background/white text disappears --
documents formatted with this re-appear white/black text.
Puuting them back as blue doesn't seem to hold.
Normal.dot is blue. This has survived wiping my C: drive
and re-installing WIN98SE (for another reason) as well as
re-installing Office 2000. What could be wrong?

The "Blue background/white text" setting (Tools | Options | View) is saved
not in Normal.dot but in the Registry. If the Registry is not retaining your
settings, you may need to rebuild the Word Data key. See
