Word comments/revisions via Entourage

I want to take a word attachment I received and make some comments and
edits, then return the document to the sender. I used to be able to do this
easily in Entourage X, but I do not seem to be able to do it in
2004 [v. 11.1.0], running in OS X 10.3.8.

You need to open the attachment, and save it somewhere, before you can start
making comments in Word.

It's not clear where you are running into difficulty, so you might want to
expand your question.
